Dear Colleagues,
The Safety Pharmacology Society is pleased to invite you to a webinar presentation on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 11:00 EDT/16:00 BST.
Title: Chronobiology: An overview highlighting opportunities and obstacles for pharmacology
Presenter: Michael R. Gorman, PhD, Center for Circadian Biology and Department of Psychology, University of California, San Diego
Description: Accelerated by the announcement of the 2017 Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the molecular mechanism of circadian rhythmicity, the field of chronobiology is attracting renewed interest from scientists in diverse disciplines including Pharmacology. Unfortunately, general unfamiliarity with circadian biology and the field’s use of specialist language have complicated its broader integration into allied disciplines. With a goal of demystifying circadian biology, this overview of the mammalian circadian timing system will highlight a) the key organizational principles of circadian physiology; b) the pervasive role of circadian function in health and disease and c) the relevance of circadian principles for drug design and testing.
Moderators: Tessa de Korte, MSc, Ncardia and Logan Laszczyk, Instem Life Sciences
